Herberger Institute for Design and the Arts Visual System

Herberger Institute for Design and the Arts is a collection of six schools and two museums housed within Arizona State University. We needed a way to visually connect our six schools to not only Herberger Institute but also to ASU in general. It needed to be flexible but unique to us. The idea of using geometric shapes to present each school came about. The shapes can be found in the architecture, the creative focuses, and many found objects related to our schools. They would become building blocks for design. Using the shapes with typography, patterns, illustration and photography.

The system has been utilized to redesign nearly every visual the Institute has. This includes websites, t-shirts, printed rackcards, banners, icons and illustrations for social media.

The response has been extremely positive. I’ve been asked to present the case study at several ASU brand gatherings and marketing sessions.
